I love this dress! In all the years I've been dealing in vintage clothing I've never seen anything like it!
When I found this dress years ago at a market it was in a sorry state. Whoever had previously owned it had worn it partying and the fabric was covered in marks and solidified wax (what were they doing in it?). I gently scraped the solid wax off then ironed it with paper to soak up the now liquid wax. Then I hand washed it a couple of times to get the marks out. Very nervously I might add, because I wasn't sure whether the colours would run or not. Luckily this is made from a very robust heavy cotton and the beautiful Qantas print is still vibrant.
I think this is a collectors' piece it's just so cool with it's amazing graphic print. The size is unusually small and doesn't fit on any of our mannequins. For all you Cinderellas out there here are the measurements. I've taken all these measurements on the outside of the garment and due to the thickness of the fabric this means they might seem slightly more generous than they are. Please take this into account. The bust is 32.5ins or 82cm, the waist is 26.5 or 67cm and the hips 36ins or 91.5cm. The length of the dress from the middle of the top to the hem is 31ins or 79cm. Please note that if you live close enough you can make an appointment to visit our shop to view the dress. Location and phone number are on the website.
Because this is a vintage piece it's not perfect. However, I consider it to be in good vintage condition especially for its age. There are a few faded marks on the dress when you examine it closely. The most obvious is a small brown spot on the yellow print just below the "Q" on the front of the dress. I haven't wanted to launder the dress any further but it's possible someone could still get them out. Any other marks are barely noticeable due to the amazingly strong print. Although the dress has no fabric label I think it's a textured cotton. It's fully lined in what looks like a white cotton. The dress wraps around and is secured in the front by two black buttons. It has a label that reads "Susi Fergusson" and it was made in Melbourne, Australia. It is also marked "created exclusively for Treasure Island Melbourne".
