What a gorgeous dress! These original pieces are getting harder and harder to find.
This one is in reasonably good condition. The fabric seems in good shape. I can't see any holes or tears apart from one of the sleeves which has come away at the seam about 2ins (5 - 6cm). There is a little bit of discolouration on the skirt fabric. (Not that noticeable.) Also a few spots where the beading is coming undone. I've included photographs of the worst of these. The beads could easily be repaired by someone clever with hand sewing.
This dress has a little "made in France" label sewn in. This would have been made in the days when most clothes were made by dressmakers. They were usually custom made for particular clients. I'm including the measurements even though I believe these special pieces aren't really for wearing but rather should be preserved by collectors. It would look wonderful displayed on a mannequin.
The dress material is a dark brown chiffon and it feels like silk to me. The skirt is lined in a chocolate fabric that is a pale coffee on the inside. It has machine stitching on it. The beading is exquisite, mainly amber glass beads with flower detail in white glass beading. Lying flat armpit to armpit is 17 1/2 inches across or 44cm so double that for bust. The dress is approx 39 ins (99cm) in length from the middle of the shoulder. The waist lying flat is approx 14ins (35 1/2cm) across so double that. There is an opening on one side that does up with 7 hooks and eyes. It's about 6ins (15cm long). The skirt is gathered into the dress at the dropped waist level with two floating panels at the front and the back.
I've decided to price this dress reasonably because I want someone who loves these pieces to look after it. I've done some research and many are priced from $500 upwards. I'm selling this one for $380 AUD which I think is very fair and is taking into account that it needs some restoration.
